The 7 Spirits of God - Part II

You know what I love about God? Many things … There are many things that I love about Him, but one thing I adore is His reassurance. I had a moment of doubt about last week’s article. After I wrote the article and recorded the video for YouTube, I began to think that maybe I was wrong. Maybe I was theologically off.
I wrote and spoke about 3 of the 7 Spirits of God derived from Isaiah 11:2, but I began to wonder if I was right in dividing them up into seven different spirits … because … are they not all one spirit? Isaiah prophesied that Jesus would have the following:
1.) The Spirit of the Lord
2.) The Spirit of Wisdom
3.) The Spirit of Understanding
4.) The Spirit of Counsel
5.) The Spirit of Might
6.) The Spirit of Knowledge
7.) The Spirit of the Fear of God
But because it appears these are all simply seven characteristics of one spirit (God’s Spirit), I began to think that maybe I was wrong to call them 7 Spirits. I wanted to toss the article and video. Yet, something in me (The Holy Spirit) told me to leave it.
Fast forward to Wednesday, my mom reached out to me after she read the article, and said that she had just read about the 7 Spirits of God in the Book of Revelation. My ears must’ve perked up like a canine when she said that.
(Me when the 7 Spirits were confirmed in Revelation)
No, but seriously. Just like that ... like a sweet breeze in the midst of uncertainty, God reassured me that I was not wrong … that there are indeed 7 Spirits of God.
Revelation 4:5 reads, “And out of the throne proceeded lightnings and thunderings and voices; and there were seven lamps of fire burning before the throne, which are the seven Spirits of God.” And Revelation 5:6 states, “ … and in the midst of the elders stood a Lamb as it had been slain, having seven horns, and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth.”
And ... I know this! I’ve read Revelation quite a few times, but for some reason or another, I didn’t remember it in my moment of doubt. But it’s good to know that even if we don’t remember the truth, God can send someone to remind you of the truth. So, yeah. I thank God for that. And shout out to my mom for being used by God without her even knowing it.
So, let’s go ahead and wrap up the last 4 of the 7 Spirits. Isaiah foresaw that the Messiah would have The Spirit of Counsel or The Spirit of Advice. In Isaiah 9, Isaiah also prophesied about a child being born who would be called Wonderful Counselor. In Jesus’s time on earth, He guided the disciples on how to live, how to respond, and how to love.
For example, Jesus washed the disciples' feet, demonstrating how selfless we are called to be. When questioned about paying taxes to Rome, Jesus advised that they all pay unto Caesar what is due Caesar and unto God what’s due God. Jesus has plenty of advice to give if we are willing to hear and receive it.
The Bible is full of good sound advice. From advice on discipline, to advice on how to show genuine love, to advice on how to combat spiritual warfare, Jesus has provided us with ample advice in His Word. He is a Wonderful Counselor, but it is up to us to listen and apply the advice He has given.
Next, Isaiah wrote that Christ would have The Spirit of Might or The Spirit of Power. I mean, do I really need to explain this one? Before Christ was born He had power. I temporarily left Colossians to speak about these 7 Spirits but Colossians 1 tells us that Christ created all things that are in heaven and earth, be it visible or invisible. Power and authority is needed to do something as grand as that.
And even as Christ walked the earth, He walked in power … healing the sick, giving sight to the blind, raising the dead. He did all of this after taking off His glory to descend to earth and live as a man. Jesus possessed all this power, even without walking in His full glory. Jesus for certain walked in power and that same power works in us. “Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us.” (Ephesians 3:20). May we always be reminded that we have a measure of power just as our Creator does. And may we walk in that power as He sees fit.
Isaiah also said that Christ would have The Spirit of Knowledge. Jesus knows the basic things of the world as well as the complex things. He knows that we are mere humans battling against the flesh, and He knows what’s in our hearts. His knowledge far exceeds our own. One read of the Book of Job will humble us in just how little we know and how much He does know. God said to Job, “Who is this who hides counsel without knowledge?” (Job 42:3).
God said this because Job spoke about things that he didn’t know. He talked about things he didn’t understand. There are some things we do not know. God also said, “I know the plans I have for you, plans for good and not for disaster.” It’s easy for us to feel as if our circumstances are disastrous but we don’t know the details of God’s plan. God is the one with the full manifestation of the Spirit of Knowledge. We only know in part (1 Corinthians 13:9).
So, let’s be mindful that even though we can ask God to bless us with The Spirit of Knowledge (and He certainly will give it!) we will never know all there is to know. But what God is willing to give in terms of knowledge, may we receive it graciously.
Lastly, Isaiah prophesied that the Messiah would have The Spirit of the Fear of the Lord, which is a spirit of reverence. Jesus respected and honored God the Father so much that He gave His life up to complete His will. Likewise, if we also have The Spirit of the Fear of the Lord, we also, should give up our lives to complete God’s will.
Jesus said in Matthew 16:25, “Whoever loses his life for My sake will find it.” We are to give up the life that our flesh desires for the desires of God. He desires that we become living sacrifices, holy, and acceptable to God. (Romans 12:1). And if we honor God fully, we will gladly lay down our life for Him.
And aint’ nobody said it was or will be easy! It wasn’t easy for Jesus to die, and it will not always be easy to die to our flesh. But it is doable. And we will do it if we possess The Spirit of Fearing the Lord.
But if for some reason we are lacking in any of these 7 Spirits of God, let me draw your attention back to Revelation 5:6. It said, “The seven Spirits of God sent out into all the earth.” These Spirits are throughout the earth. They are accessible. We can attain these godly spirits if we desire them.
So, if you have the desire for them, may God freely give you an abundant portion of these 7 Spirits of God. If you do not have the desire, may God change your desire to fit His will sooner rather than later. And then, may He pour out His Spirits upon you in abundance.
Dear reader, that’s all I have for you today. I pray this message has blessed you. May God keep you. Until next time, take care.
