You Have Access

In whom we have boldness and access with confidence by the faith of him

(Ephesians 3:12, NIV)

Though it seems unfeasible, God has given us access to Him. I am fully persuaded that this is the greatest gift of all time. God is much too vast. Much too glorious. Much too holy for us. Yet, He has granted us access to Him. The scenic landscape of earth, the great mountains, the euphoric skyline, the sheer beauty of our world and universe are enough to take our breath away.

But these things are only God’s creations. As beautiful as they are, they do not compare to Him. God exists outside of time. We exist inside of time. Yet, He still grants us access to Him. He is a heavenly being, we are human beings. But we have access to Him. God is literally entitled “I AM” because He just is.

We cannot put a cap, label, or limit on God. Nor can we give a complete definition on everything God is because our minds cannot conceive Him. Thus, He is simply “I AM”.

He is God. He not only knows the beginning and ending of time, He is the beginning and ending of time. But we have access to Him.

I’m trying to paint the picture of how insane it is that we have access to such a supreme being. Because sometimes I truly don’t think we get it. It is mind-boggling that He would even look our way, let alone consider us. King David agrees.

When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained; What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him? For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour. Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet:

(Psalms 8:3-6, KJV)

Like seriously. Who are we to have access to God? Many of us don't even have access to earthly things, but we privileged enough to have access to heavenly things. For example, go and try to gain access to be around your favorite actor, actress, or singer and see how that turns out. Go try to get a meeting with the current President of the United States or the former presidents of the U.S. or the president of any country for that matter. But that's unrealistic, right? Let’s drop the bar some, shall we?

Go and see if you can schedule a meeting with the governor of your state. How about the mayor of your city? I’m still pushing the access border, aren't I? Well, how about a meeting with the top executives of your current employer? That’s still a no for most of us. The most access we'll have is a meeting with our immediate supervisor… and we may not get that if they are busy.

But God, the one who reigns over them all, the one who is most important, grants us access to Him. I love how God counter-questions Job when Job briefly forgot who God was. It really puts God’s sovereignty into perspective. God led me to this chapter a while ago when I needed to be checked myself. The things said in this book are just… well, here’s some of it. Read for yourself.

“Where were you when I laid the earth’s foundation? Tell me, if you understand. Who marked off its dimensions? Surely you know! Who stretched a measuring line across it?

“Who shut up the sea behind doors when it burst forth from the womb,

“Have you ever given orders to the morning,

or shown the dawn its place,

“Can you bind the chains of the Pleiades? Can you loosen Orion’s belt?

(Job 38:4-5,8,12, and 31)

Can I loosen Orion’s belt? Can I loosen Orion’s belt??? No, my Lord! For only You can! I don’t know earth’s dimensions. I don’t know where light and darkness reside. No, my God, lightening does not come and go at my command. My voice does not thunder. Just yesterday I struggled with the straps and buckle on my own shoes… only You can loosen Orion’s belt.

God’s dialogue with Job humbled him… and it humbled me too. It should humble anyone who reads it. It brought me so low that I just wanted to cry and praise Him. For only a holy, all-knowing, and all-powerful God can know and do the things He does.

Yet, that’s not why I’m writing to you today. I wanted to put the focus on how extraordinary God is so we could grasp how out of this world it is to have access to Him. Through faith in Christ, we have access to God. Having access to God is, as I stated, the greatest gift of all time.

It is a precious commodity to be treasured. We should clasp it close to our hearts. Because even if we don’t fully understand what great of a gift we have, the enemy does. The enemy knows exactly how powerful access to God truly is. This is why he places roadblocks on our access path to God.

But the tricky part is Satan’s roadblocks don’t look like roadblocks…they look like Disney attractions. They appear to be enticing, enchanting rides with promises of thrills and joy. But a roadblock is a roadblock, no matter how enchanting it may seem.

I write to you today to warn you of roadblocks that are threating your access to God. We have such a sacred treasure in having access to “I AM”. When we access God, we lean into who we are purposed to be. We gain power. We gain clarity. We gain God.

But roadblocks are meant to deny our access. Roadblocks will manifest in different forms, but they are rooted from three sources: the lust of the eye, the lust of the flesh, and the pride of life. Remove any roadblock that clogs the flow between you and God. It’s not worth it. Remove it and remove it fast.

Also, although some things aren’t sinful, be leery of what you are giving your attention to. Too much attention to social media and TV— or things that do not edify your soul—can be another roadblock. Just how much more of God can you have access to in a day if you were to cut back on these things? Or at least if your social media and TV had more God in it?

Remember, whatever we see, whatever we read, and whatever we listen to is being digested into our psyche. If Satan can use music to block your access to God, he will. If he can convince you to eat up your time on mindless activities, he will. If he can pour more of the world into you, and less of God, he’d be pleased. He knows what a gift you have, and he’ll do all he can to keep you from accessing your most prized possession.

So, I beseech you brethren (excuse my theatrics, I love Bible language 😊) But I do implore you to clear your path to God. Let nothing deny your access to God. He is too sacred, too powerful, and far too awesome to miss out on. You have access to anything you can fathom.

Psalms 37 says if we delight in the Lord, He’ll give us the desires of our heart, Mark 9:23 states nothing is impossible for those who believe, and Ephesians 3:20 states He can do exceedingly and abundantly above all we can ask or think according to the power that works in us. So if it aligns with His will, we have access to it.

So, I leave you today asking that you reflect on what you have access to. Dig into your Bible and refresh your memory of the promises of Abraham, learn more of the one true sovereign God, and don't take for granted what you've been given. He's only a prayer away.

But even in prayer, if there are roadblocks in the way, we aren't likely to hear Him clearly. Those roadblocks will hinder a clear signal from God... ask me how I know. I'm speaking from experience. And I'm writing to you because there could be a divine level of greatness hidden within you that has yet to be discovered because of hindered access to God.

Remove the roadblocks and allow God's presence to flow over and through you like an open fire hydrant. May His glory and power cascade through your life. And may we all be ever so careful to remember that we have access to the God who spoke the universe into existence. Reader, you have access, and what grand access it is.
