Part II people! In last week’s article, I named one way in which we can grab God’s attention. That way was by faith. I got a little carried away with that one point, and it ended up consuming the entire article 😊 but having faith is pivotal. Plus, you can’t effectively execute the points in this article without first having faith.
So, have faith. Then, you can engage in these other key ways to get God’s attention. These ways aren’t all-inclusive at all. It’s just a few ways that I noticed via scripture that can get God to observe us in a special way. Alright, let’s dive into these four other ways to catch God’s eye.
2. Prayers and Giving
Cornelius stared at him in fear. “What is it, Lord?” he asked. The angel answered, “Your prayers and gifts to the poor have come up as a memorial offering before God.
(Acts 10:4 NIV)
Because Cornelius prayed to God and gave to the poor, he was recognized by God. Goodness, what an honor that must be? To have our prayers and giving stand before God as an acceptable offering before God would be amazing. Prayer is so easy to do. You can literally teach a toddler to do it. Yet, we should never underestimate the power of prayer.
When something is so simple to do, it can be hard to grasp its potency and power. But prayer, a direct divine connection to God Almighty, is a tool that can and will absolutely grab God’s attention.
When the children of Israel were in bondage, God said, “I have heard them crying out” (Exodus 3:7). God heard their prayer. When Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and prayed to God because he didn’t want to die, God told Isaiah to go tell Hezekiah that He heard his prayer (2 Kings 20:5). There are an innumerable number of times in scriptures where someone prayed, and God answered. Want to get God’s attention? Pray. And pray often.
Keep in mind Cornelius also gave. Giving can absolutely catch God’s eye; however, we shouldn’t give just to grab God’s attention. Giving only so that we can look good to God or get His attention will in fact grab His attention… though it may not be the type of attention you seek.
We should give not grudgingly nor out of necessity. We should give because we want to give God what He has requested in terms of tithes and offering. We should also give because we want to bless others. Some people are blessed with the gift of giving. Some are not.
My husband is a terrific giver. Me... ugh. It can be better. But I’m praying over it and making progress! 😊 So even if you are not naturally a giver, you can ask God to bless you with the spirit of giving. We should all desire to have a memorial of prayer and giving go up before us as an awesome sacrifice to God. I don’t want my sacrifice of prayers and giving to look like Cain’s sacrifice. I want a “more excellent” sacrifice like Abel’s (Hebrews 11:4). So, let’s work on our memorials to please God and grab His attention.
3. Praises of Thanks
Those who sacrifice thank offerings honor me,
and to the blameless I will show my salvation.
(Psalms 50:23 NIV)
Sometimes you just have to praise Him! I know we can get caught up in petitioning God of things, but more often than not, we need to just stop and praise God. Have you ever just praised God because He gives us the opportunity to ask Him anything? We tend to want to hold our praise until after the prayer is answered. But I thank God that we even have access to Him.
The very concept of praying to God is worthy of praise by itself. Because who are we to have access to God? Isn’t He too holy to open His ears to us? How are we allowed direct access to God, when most of us can’t even get access to the top executives at our jobs? What gives us the right to get any attention or recognition from God?
Nothing. Nothing gives us the right on our own accord. We shouldn’t have the right. It’s only through Christ’s sacrifice and His grace and mercy that we can approach God’s throne. So, we ought to praise God and send up a sacrifice of thanksgiving simply because we have unhindered, divine access to Him by way of prayer.
Aside from having access to God, there are countless reasons to send up praises to Him. There are more reasons than we realize and more than we can ever thank Him for. If only for shelter, say thank you. If only for food and clothing, say thank you. If only for the basic activity of your limbs and your five senses, say thank you.
Say, thank you today! For He is worthy, more than worthy, of our sacrifice of praise.
And on that note, I will make my exit for today. I'm aware that I stated I would discuss four more ways, in addition to faith, to get God's attention. Yet, I only listed two ways in this article. But I would hate to bore you with a lengthy article. I know how it feels to click on an article and groan on the inside over how long it is... far be it from me that you have those same sentiments about this article.
So, if it's the Lord's will, I'll see you guys next week for Part III. Take it easy and be blessed!
