The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.”
John 3:8 NIV
"You cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going."
The uncertainty of it all. It's interesting to say the least. Recently, I thought about King David and how he had no clue that God was going to appoint him king.
Once he became aware of God's plan, he faced much adversity over a span of nearly 15 years before he reigned as king. David knew he was set to be king, but he didn't know what he would face on the way or how long it would take.
There were moments in his life that I suppose he didn't know was tied to his destiny. I assume that when he slaughtered the lion and bear, he thought it was just something he had to do to protect his sheep. Perhaps he thought it was just another day at work with a little added drama. I imagine he didn't know that it was God's divine training course in preparation to fight Goliath, which gave him honor amongst the people.
But what David did know is that he was endowed with the Holy Spirit (1 Samuel 16:13). In essence, David eventually ascended to God's prepared position for him because he went with the wind. Even though he may have been uncertain of the path and of the timing, he was guided by God and the Holy Spirit.
Likewise, when we surrender to God's plan, we agree to submit to the guidance of the Holy Spirit. And as the text states, we cannot tell which way it will go. Envision leaves and how they are swept away with the wind. No one, but God Himself, can be certain of the path that a leaf will take.
When we surrender to God, we are as leaves caught in the wind, swaying every way in which the Holy Spirit leads. We become caught in the wind. And reader, this is a stark analogy.
Leaves flowing in the wind have no power or say in their path. To release all control to the wind of the Holy Spirit may prove too unsteady for some. Yet, the Holy Spirit is no regular wind.
This wind blows with wisdom and intentionality. This wind flows with purpose. And might I add that you are not a miniscule leaf. You are God's chosen. Your path, God's plan, is sure and steady. It is perfect.
Thus, should you choose to go with this wind, you will not be carelessly tossed about. Quite on the contrary, you will be caught in a guided wind of love. You'll find that the whistle of this wind composes a sweet melody ... even when the clouds above hang low.
I urge you to become caught in the wind. May you drift where the Holy Spirit flows. Though you may not know where it is going, be sure that wherever it takes you, it is exactly where you need to be.
I pray for your peace and your guidance through God the Father, Jesus Christ, His Son, and the still wind of the Holy Spirit. Have a blessed and wonderous week. If it is the Lord's will, I'll see you next week.
