Appointed to Die

ree

"As you know how we exhorted, and comforted and charged every one of you, as a father does his own children, that you would walk worthy of God who calls you into His own kingdom and glory."

(1 Thessalonians 2:11-12)

A charge was laid upon every believer who confesses Jesus is Lord. That charge is listed in Paul's letter to the Thessalonian Church. "Walk worthy of God," he exclaimed. Live your life in a way that pleases God. But how?

Romans 8 tells us that the flesh or the carnal mind is enmity to God, meaning it opposes God and the things of God. So, the bodies we live in naturally opposes God, yet God requires that we live in a way that pleases Him ... while living in flesh ... which cannot please Him. So ... How? How can we walk worthy of God if our very nature is in opposition of Him?

The Holy Spirit. Simple answer. Simple solution. Pack it up reader. That's the end of this week's Write On! Wednesday article. Have a blessed day.

I kid. I kid.

But it really is that simple. Again, it is extremely difficult, I'd say impossible, to please God outside of the Holy Spirit. Therefore, it is essentially impossible to walk worthy of God outside of His help.

In John 14:16, Jesus promised to send the Helper, the Holy Spirit, to abide in believers. Therefore, when we accept Jesus as Lord, we inherit a built-in spiritual advisor sent from God Himself to aid us in this thing called life. This advisor convicts us, encourages us, and leads us into all things holy. Yet, it is not only an advisor. It is also endowed with supernatural abilities.

We are so used to hearing about the Holy Spirit that I think we have forgotten its potency. This spirit is so strong that it impregnated a virgin. It is so powerful that it raised not only Jesus from the dead, but also Dorcas, also known as Tabitha. It is so influential and commanding that even Saul was on his way to kill David... on his way to sin ... but he could not. When the Holy Spirit fell on Saul, he quite literally, could not sin because the Holy Spirit caused him to worship God instead.

I need you to know that the Holy Spirit is more than an

advisor. If the Holy Spirit lives in you, you have power within to resist the flesh that opposes God and walk worthy of Him instead. It is by that power that you can live holy, despite living in these bodies that wish to do all things unholy. You cannot do this alone. You cannot live a life worthy of a God alone. You need the Holy Spirit.

Now, about this title Appointed to Die, in order to walk worthy of God you must die to the flesh. Jesus was appointed by God to die for our sins so that we might live. And we are appointed to die to our sins so that we might live. Yes, every believer of Christ must die. It is our calling, and we must accept that calling if we wish to live.

Dear reader, that's all I have for you today. Just a quick reminder that you are appointed to die to your sinful nature. No, it isn't easy. Even with help from the Holy Spirit, it can be hard. But it can be done. Certainly, it isn't harder than dying on a rugged cross. If Christ died for us, we can die for Him.

I bid you farewell reader. May God bless you and keep you in all your ways. Until next time, take care.
