A Vain Existence

In Colossians 1, it is clearly stated that all things were created by Christ and for Christ. “For by him all things were created, that are in heaven and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him and for him.” (Colossians 1:16). This means that everything and everyone has an intentional purpose– we are created for God.
Just as candle was created to give light in darkness, we are created to shine forth God’s light in this dark world. We are God’s workmanship, created for good works per Ephesians 2:10. We are created to do good and to be good for the glory of God.
Yet, free will allows us to choose if we will align with what we were created for. It’s not my intention to judge others, but I find myself observing others and wondering how their life would be if they opted to do what God created them to do instead of them doing what they have chosen to do.
For example, Satan was not created to be the accuser of the brethren. He was not created to be an enemy of God and to terrorize God’s people. His original position was one of glory and beauty. Ezekiel 28 reveals this and it is a tragedy to see how far Satan fell from his original design.
When I observe people who choose to live in opposition to God, I can’t help but wonder what kind of beauty they are withholding from the world. I wonder in what capacity could God use them if they allowed Him to do so. It’s like observing precious gold and jewels erode to rust.
Just like Satan was not designed to be an enemy of God, neither are we. But Jesus speaks of people being His enemy in Luke 19. Read this verse:"But as for these enemies of mine, who did not want me to reign over them, bring them here and slaughter them before me." (Luke 19:27)
This verse is similar to the parable in Matthew 25. It mentioned how the servant was cast away because he did not fulfill what he was meant to fulfill. It is a shame to be created for a purpose and not fulfill it. A chair that cannot hold the weight of a person is cast away because what good is it if it cannot do what it’s designed for? A house that is condemned is torn down if people cannot live in it.
Everything and everyone was created for one purpose. We were created for Christ. But if we are not living for Him or doing what He desires then we are likened to a condemned house or a chair that cannot seat a person. We are to be cast away, just as Jesus said. Our existence would be in vain.
Reader, I don’t really have much else to say today. Just make your existence count. Be who you were created to be– a source of love and light in this dark world so that God may receive the glory. Do what you were created to do– love God and love others as yourself. Otherwise, if you are not doing or being what you were created for, why are you here?
So, today, I just wanted to encourage you to make your existence count. You were created by Christ and for Christ. It’s best to seek Christ to ensure that we are aligned with the vision He had for us when He made us. Our existence is not only to produce good works. It is first to understand and have salvation. It is to be restored to God despite our sins through Christ.
It's important that we understand that good works for Christ is awesome, but it doesn't guarantee a seat in heaven. Jesus declared that people did many good works but that He didn't know them in Matthew 7:22-23. So, before we set our hearts on doing good works, let's just set our hearts on Him. Then, He will lead us to perform the good works He envisioned for us when He created us.
Reader, that’s all I have. May God bless and guide us to His heart and may He aid us in doing good works from a good heart washed in the blood of the Lamb. May God bless you and keep you. Until next time, take care.
