Clutch Your Pearls!

Pearls are such fancy sophisticated pieces of jewelry. A beautiful pearl necklace can change virtually any outfit into a classy ensemble in seconds. They exude class and high-status. They have an air of femininity and elegance that a gold or silver necklace just can't quite pull off. Simply put, pearls signify poise.

Society's views of pearls being precious is nothing new. Jesus referenced pearls in the following scripture.

Matthew 7:6

Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you

Notice here that Christ makes a comparison between things that are holy and pearls. We are to not cast that which is holy nor things as precious as pearls to dogs or pigs. But what are pearls per this scripture?

Well honestly, the scripture does not specify in Matthew 7. However, we can conclude that pearls are synonymous with whatever is deemed holy per the scriptures. Per 1 Corinthians 6:19-20, our very bodies are holy temples belonging to God. Thus, it is safe to conclude that giving our bodies away in any aspect contrary to the Word of God is equivalent to casting precious pearls to animals.

Please don't tell me y'all out here casting your pearls away when you should be clutching them!

It should be noted here that giving away your body is not limited to adultery or fornication. Per Galatians 5, the Fruits of the Spirit include love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness and self-control. If you allow anyone to take away your joy, your peace, your goodness, or any of the Fruits of the Spirit, then you are casting away holy elements of yourself. You are ridding yourself of what is precious and what should be clutched for dear life.

If you refer back to Matthew 7:6, it says do not cast your pearls before swine or they will trample them under their feet and turn around and rend you. Rend means to tear something apart or to wreak emotional havok. You see, if you throw your body, your joy, your peace, you self-control away for any reason at all, it will tear you apart. You will suffer emotionally as well as spiritually for parting ways with what is meant to be safe guarded. Your joy can turn into sadness, your peace can turn into turmoil, and your love can turn into hate, if you neglect the invaluable beauty of your precious pearls.

So please, for the love of all that is pure and holy,

CLUTCH YOUR PEARLS!!!

And clutch them tightly.
